Times of economic difficulty can cause stress and anxiety. The list of worries is long. Will you have enough money to meet your monthly bills? Will your home be safe in the mortgage crisis? Remember, your ultimate goal is to create an Internet business that is recession proof.  You want to be independent of an employer and able to support yourself with your Internet business so that in tough economic times, you’re not worried about downsizing or lay off’s. Running your own Internet business can enable you to control your own life and be your own boss in a part of the economy that is proven to be fairly recession-proof.

I’ve found this one accidently while surfing through the internet and I though it’s very interesting, as I have a slight short-sight (low myopia, –2/-1).

Before that, I didn’t even know you can improve your eye sight by simply by some simple exercises such as relaxing your eyes could improve your eye-sight (especially if it’s not too advanced).

This technique is based on the work of an ophthalmologist named Dr. William H. Bates back in 1880s, who thought that if it’s possible to rejoin bones, it should also be possible to restore your eye sight without surgery. He discovered that an average person’s eyesight is affected by many factors like stress level, eye strain and even their diet.

In most of the cases this could be corrected by a handful of eye relaxation exercises.

There is a short overview of the topics inside this book:

• Relaxing exercises. By only doing them a few minutes daily you can significantly improve your eyesight over time

The second book I’d like to review about is Vista Speed Secrets. As mentioned in my last review about How To Fix Slow Computers, I’ve found it among some other books in the bedroom. They belong to my boyfriend who I thought of to be a computer nerd and knows everything about computers (which seems most of his knowledge comes from books similar to this one).

Unlike the last book, this one is dedicated to the Microsoft Operating System Windows Vista. For the ones who don’t know, Windows Vista is the latest operating system (a program which communicates between the hardware and the user) from Microsoft.

With the tips from this book I’ve been able to improve my performance a bit further compared to the tips from the last book, by…

• … disabling hidden background programs which use valuable resources
• … removing programs which show advertisement inside other programs (so-called “Adware”) or programs which spy on users habits (for example track down websites you’ve visited) and this way slowdown your computer
• … falsely configured programs and operating systems which use unnecessary resources

While it’s very detailed explained, it uses a few more of the technical jargon as “How To Fix Slow Computers” one. But it’s quite well explained and I was able to understand most of the terms explained there (even though not all, but I still have time to learn them, don’t I?). There are also pictures explaining you step for step what to do increase your performance under Vista.

There was also an DVD which contains videos explaining how to optimize your Vista computer.

With both, “How To Fix Slow Computers” and “Vista Speed Secrets” I was able to bring up my computer to it’s old speed when we first bought it and even get a little bit faster, by disabling all the unnecessary features in Vista.

Guess that saved me from buying a new computer for at least 1 year. Hopefully by that, I’ll have earned enough money by blogging to finance a new computer!

After a bit research in Google I also found a way to obtain this book digitally, without the need to go to a bookstore and buying it, for all those who are as lazy as I am.

How To Fix Slow Computers

My boyfriend is a really computer nerd, when it comes to computers. Whenever I have a problem, I have to go to him and he will fix it within a few minutes. I always wondered where his knowledge comes from.

One day I was cleaning the bedroom when I noticed a few books there, a few of them about computers. The first book I’m going to review is “How To Fix Slow Computers” as it seems to be the most useful (for me) as my computer has become pretty slow in the past 2 years and can take 8-10 minutes until it’s started and I can start working with it.

First i thought it would be very hard to understand the things in this book as I am a computer dummy and don’t really understand the technical jargon terms. I was surprised when I started to read this book that there were only very few technical jargon terms used in it and if there was some of this technical terms, it was explained very well so even a computer dummy like I am could understand it.

Whenever my boyfriend is out of house for working, I’ll sneak up in the bedroom and read a little bit in the books and apply the new learned knowledge on my computer and see how it slowly regain it’s speed as it had a few years ago when we first bought the computer.

Some of the things I learned from this book is how to …

• … rearrangement your hard drive (the think in your computer which saves all the data and files) which makes starting your programs and computer significantly faster
• … split up your hard drive into several sections to prevent rearrangement of your data cause by creating and deleting files which results in a much slower slowdown in the long run
• … clean up dead settings cause by programs you once had on your computer but deleted and the programs didn’t correctly cleaned up upon deletion
• … speed up your internet connection by changing hidden system values

Some of the tips give significant speed increases, other gives less. But it sums up. But don’t expect to much wonders. You can’t make the computer faster than it really is. The tips only helps to restore the speed lost over time by installing many programs and deleting them or normal usage.

So if you’re same computer dummy like I am, you maybe want to check out this book and optimize your computer yourself instead of spending 100’s of dollars for so-called “computer specialists” (that’s if you don’t have a boyfriend who is a computer crack/nerd).
